Job Description / Requirements
  • BLAST is implementing a joint project `Improvement of the Real Situation of Overcrowding in Prisons in Bangladesh (IRSOP)` of GIZ, Home Affairs and the Bangladesh Prison Directorate with a range of activates focused on reducing overcrowding in prisons in Bangladesh by providing legal aid services to indigent under-trial prisoners and there by alleviate the pressures on the criminal justice system enhance the capacity of paralegals and community legal services to provide legal aid to increase responsiveness of criminal justice mechanisms.
  • BLAST is currently searching for a District Project Officer (DPO) for Dinajpur Project Office to supervise activities of Paralegals. S/He will be based in Dinajpur, will report to the Unit Coordinator and Project Director and interact regularly with senior management, government authorities, and with other NGOs commending immediately and ends June 2018.

  • Duration: Commencing immediately till 30 June, 2018
Educational Requirements
LLB/ LLM from any reputed college/ university with Enrollment in Bangladesh Bar Council
Additional Requirements
  • Represent the project at the District level and acts as its focal point.
  • Maintain close relations, network and coalition with the different district level departments of government, NGOs and development partners;
  • Ensure a polite and successful interface with all paralegals and other stakeholders for the criminal justice agencies;
  • Manage, implement and delivery the activities work plan with paralegals.
  • Meet as required with the Judiciary, Administration, the District Legal Aid Committee, Police, Prison, Health department, Women and Children Affairs department, Social Welfare department and Bar representatives, in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the criminal justice system in Bangladesh.
  • Communicate with prisoners or their relatives to hear problems to take necessary steps in lawful manner and identify causes of arrest & detention if necessary.
  • Conducting litigation.
  • Maintain liaison with government departments, local administration, public representatives and other stakeholders.
  • Organize and attend the different meeting including CCC, workshop and other events..
  • Coordinate data required for reporting in coordination with Paralegals;
Experience Requirements
  • At least 3 years professional working experience
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and persuasiveness, both internally and externally
  • Excellent computer skills like MS word, Excel, Internet browsing, emai etc
  • Fluent Bangla and English (spoken and written) language skills
